A massive thank you to the families that donated food for our harvest festival! We were again amazed by your generosity and kindness. The food has been donated to the Salvation Army who will distribute it to local food banks in Ashfield.
The children had a special assembly by Mr Robertson who talked about harvest being a time to reflect on the hard work of farmers from all across the world. The children sang their harvest songs beautifully to different classes.
As part of Year 5 and 6's history topic (the Anglo-Saxons and the Vikings), the children went on a day trip to York. The children had a wonderful time exploring Clifford Tower, being an archaeologist at the Dig, travelled to Viking times at Jorvik, saw the childhood home of Guy Fawkes and walked the city walls. The children were beautifully behaved and many members of the public commented on the children's manners.
On Friday 23rd September, we hosted a coffee morning in aide of Macmillan Cancer support. A huge thank you to those who donated cakes and to the parents who donated money. We raised £380.00 which is amazing!
At the start of the term, Attenborough class researched David Attenborough who our class is named after. The children wrote letters to him explaining why we chose to name our class after him and asking him questions about his life. On Wednesday 21st September, we were shocked to discover that he had replied to our letter! This just shows that our writing can have an impact!
We were approached by the Chad too who have done an amazing article about the letter.
Take a look on the Children's section to see the names of the pupils who have been voted in to be on this year's School Council. We had lots of children who wanted to be part of this and each child, in every year group, voted for the two children who they thought would be the best to represent their ideas in the school. We have a fantastic team of 10 members and we are looking forward to working with them during the year!
Congratulations to Spencer for winning the art competition! And well done to the runner ups - Jacob, Lucy, Abigail, Emily W, Emily R, Brianna and Anika! We had some fantastic art work submitted!
Nancy competed at the Brazilian
Jiu-Jitsu junior world Gi championships on Saturday at Aldersley leisure village
in Birmingham. This was Nancy's first
competition. Nancy has been training at Gracie Barra Mansfield for just over a
year. Nancy won gold in the white belt
female junior 2 weight category.
Winning her gold medal with a
submission called a cross collar choke.
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is a martial art and
combat sport based on ground fighting
and submission holds. BJJ focuses on the skill of taking an opponent to the
ground, controlling one's opponent,
gaining a dominant position, and using a number of techniques to force them into submission via joint locks or chokeholds.
Credit to Nancy we knew she would be
good but being Nancy's first competition we were not sure how good. She
submitted and beat some great
competition who had been doing it and
competing longer than Nancy. We
couldn’t be more proud!
Well done Nancy. You are amazing!
