What I can do to help

Starting nursery can be an uncertain time for children and parents. You can help your child by talking positively about what they will be able to do and the new friends they will meet. You can also help by making sure that you arrive on time to drop off and collect your child. Your child will benefit when you show an interest in what they say to you and make relevant comments.  In fact chatting with your child as you walk to and from nursery can help in many ways. You can talk about the shapes, colours and numbers you see. You can also discuss the animals that are around and anything that happens on the walk.

At home, playing games or doing puzzles together is a fun way to help us and your child too.

Children love story and spending time sharing books with them helps them and us in so many ways. It enriches their vocabulary, it introduces them to reading and helps to develop a love of books, and at the end of the day it helps them to relax and sleep better too.

In nursery we love to have help with changing library books. We also enjoy it if you can share some of your favourite stories/skills with us (as and when it is safe). Children often love to meet new people and it helps them expand their world. Please speak to a member of the nursery team if you would like to help either occasionally or on a regular basis.

We appreciate having items in Nursery from home that link in with the topic we are doing. Please be on the look out for requests for help/donations etc. Sometimes we send little tasks home for you to do together, linked with the current topic, we love to see what you have done with your child, every one is different, we love it!

If your child is not well, has a temperature, cold or upset stomach please inform us and keep them at home until they are well. If they have a stomach bug they need to have been clear for 72 hours before they come back to nursery as they could still be infectious. We need to be extra careful at the moment, and we don't want to spread ANY infection around.

Finally if you have any concerns or information you think we need to know please don't hesitate to speak with us. Currently it's not easy to chat at the door but we can arrange to speak on the phone, at a time to suit us and you.
