Year 3 and 4 - Martin Luther King

Welcome to Martin Luther King Class!

Meet the Team!

Welcome to our King Class web page. We are really looking forward to the year ahead. Here you will find photos of some of the things we have been doing along with specific information and letters for our class.

Mrs Debic teaches us Monday to Wednesday and Mrs Rigby teaches us Thursday and Friday. Mrs Hill, Mrs Cope, Mrs Brace and Mrs Douglas are teaching assistants who work with us at various times during the week.

This half term our topic is ‘What kind of artist are you? ' -  a Art-based topic where we will learn different Art skills and about different artists.

PE will continue to be on Mondays and Thursdays.  Please send your child to school in their outdoor PE kits on their PE days. We now go swimming on Wednesdays as part of our PE programme.

Homework will be sent out each Thursday and should be completed and returned by the following Tuesday. We will alternate sending English and Maths homework each week and it will support the work we have been doing in school that week. The children will be rewarded with a stamp and dojo points if they return their homework on time each week over the half term. They will also receive weekly spellings and times tables which they will be tested on each week. Times tables will be tested on Wednesdays if you are in Mrs Debic and Mrs Rigby's. or Miss Kennedy and Mrs Stonham's maths groups. They will be tested on Friday's if you are in Mrs Tagg's maths group.

Spelling tests will take place on Wednesdays. Please encourage your child to practise their new spellings which will be in their diaries. Please also ensure that you listen to your child read at home regularly, encouraging them to try a wide range of books. Children will receive a reward stamp each week if they have read at least three times at home, but this must be recorded and signed by an adult from home.

We are really looking forward to the term ahead ~ please ask if there's anything else you would like to know!

What can I do to help?

Reading with your children is such an important thing that you can do to help them. Not only does it provide a lovely opportunity to spend quality time with them, but regularly reading with (and to!) them gives them a huge advantage with their own reading confidence. Ideally, reading with them every day is perfect. We know that life is busy, but please try to read with them most days. This doesn't just have to be their school reading books. Reading comics, library books, magazines and anything else they enjoy provides them with a great reading diet.

Please help your child to practise their times tables. Once they are secure with these, they find all other areas of maths so much easier to tackle. There are lots of free resources available online, and we are happy to provide paper materials you can use to support them at home too.

Encourage your child to practise their spellings and to complete their homework each week. This is really helpful for them. They may need your help to complete it. Please ask for help with this if you need it.
