Year 4 - Cougars

Welcome to Year 4 Cougar Class

Useful information

Our PE days are Tuesdays and Wednesdays. This term we will be going swimming on a Wednesday. Please make sure your children have their indoor and outdoor kits in school, so we can do PE whatever the weather. It is easier to leave kits in school all week, so we are always prepared. PE kits should be in school colours (blue, white or black) and should include a t-shirt, shorts, joggers, a jacket, trainers and plimsolls.

Homework is given out on Wednesdays and it is due the following Monday. If your child brings their homework in on time for a whole half term, they will receive reward stamps. If your child is struggling with their homework, please let me know and I will support them.

Spelling tests will take place on Mondays and new spellings will be given out on Mondays too. Please encourage your children to learn the words from their weekly lists, which can be found in the 'spelling lists' section of their blue diaries.

Times table tests will take place on Wednesdays. Your child will need to get full marks on two consecutive occasions in order to gain their specific times table award.

Please ensure your child reads three times a week and that it is recorded and signed in their blue diaries. If your child is not enjoying their book, encourage them to change it.

Outdoor Maths Coordinates Twister

On Friday, we made the most of the unusual hot weather by doing maths outside. We learnt about plotting coordinates on a grid using the familiar game of 'Twister'. We had to move our legs and bodies to specific plots. We had a great time!

Enterprise (Pop Perfect Popcorn)

For enterprise, we had a lot of fun creating and selling our own popcorn. We made £57.50!

Suitcase

On Tuesday 25th June, Mr Price walked into assembly with a mysterious suitcase which was full of different objects. The suitcase had been buried by a travelling story teller many years ago. By reading his letter, which he left in the suitcase, we learnt that he used to use the objects to inspire and help tell his stories. However, he never got to finish his collection of stories ...

Everyone in assembly suggested that we should finish his stories! Using the different objects, we generated some possible story ideas.

Yorkshire Wildlife Park

On Tuesday 7th May, we went on an adventure to Yorkshire Wildlife Park. We had a 'wild' time looking at the different animals from across the world. We learnt how to classify different animals by sight too.

Our Christmas Party

We had a lot of fun at our Christmas party. We played lots of fun games.

On Wednesday (26th November 2018) and Thursday (27th November 2018), we made our very own Roman soup. We had to research different soup recipes, write our very own recipe and cook our  Roman soup. We had to cut and peel the vegetables and we eventually got to taste it. It was delicious!

Anti-Bullying Day

World War One Week

This week it was World War 1 week and all of our learning has been linked to this theme. We completed a gruelling army workout, looked at artefacts from WW1, drew some silhouette artwork and studied a famous poem by John McCrae 'In Flanders Fields'.

New Cross Church Remembrance Service

Stone Age Day

On Thursday 25th October 2018, it was our 'Stone Age Day'. We dressed up as stone age people and we did some really fun activities. In the afternoon, we showcased our creative homework, which was extremely interesting. We had a brilliant day!

Science Day! 04.10.2018

We really enjoyed our Science Day. We 'attempted' to create bouncy balls; we made rockets as a team; we created our very own lava lamps and we turned water into ice instantly. We had a lot of fun even though some of the experiments didn't go to plan.
