Meethteam

Welcome to our Pankhurst Class web page. We are really looking forward to the year ahead. Here you will find photos of some of the things we have been doing along with specific information and letters for our class. .

Our teachers are Mrs Plumb and Mrs Stonham.

Mrs Plumb will be teaching the class on Mondays and Tuesdays.

Mrs Stonham will be teaching the class on Wednesdays, Thursday and Fridays.

Miss Bacon and Mrs Brace are also our teaching assistants and they will also work with us during the mornings and afternoons.

Mrs Blake will be teaching us on a Wednesday afternoon and will also be supporting us at various times during the week as well.

This term our topic is What was so special about Shakespeare?'

PE will be on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Please send your child to school in their outdoor PE kits on their PE days.

Homework will be sent out each Thursday and should be completed and returned by the following Tuesday. We will alternate sending English and Math’s homework each week and it will support the work we have been doing in school that week. The children will be rewarded with a stamp and dojo points if they return their homework on time each week over the half term. They will also receive weekly spellings and times tables which they will be tested on each week. Times tables will be tested on Wednesdays.

Spelling tests will also take place on Wednesdays. Please encourage your child to practice their new spellings which will be in their diaries. Please also ensure that you listen to your child read at home regularly, encouraging them to try a wide range of books. Children will receive a reward stamp each week if they have read at least three times at home, but this must be recorded and signed by an adult from home.

Please ask if there's anything else you would like to know!

Year 3 and 4 Geography Showcase

We dropped off our versions of "There's a Monster In your Book" to Foundation 1 and 2 last Friday.

Comic Relief Day

World Book Day

Monday

We read " The Barnabus Project" and learnt about the imperfect pets that manage to escape from a laboratory. We sang " This is me" and " You've got a friend in me" as the pets accept themselves as they are even though they are imperfect and because as a group they form a close friendship bond.

We drew our own imperfect pets and wrote persuasive leaflets about a place where the imperfect pets can go and feel safe, be free and most importantly be themselves.

Tuesday

Today we met the author Jessica Bowers who shared her book, " Fabulous Frankie's Huge Heart" with us. We went onto describe things and people that we love.

Wednesday

Today we spent this morning looking at the challenges faced by some of the characters in Roald Dahl's book " Matilda". We discussed what a challenge is and the challenges we may have faced this morning.

In the afternoon we looked at Roald Dahl's use of word play for which he was well known. He loved experimenting with language and often created brand new words. We hunted for some of these words in extracts from the BFG. We found words like repulsant, icky poo, squiggle and mispise. We then had a go at making up our own brand new words.

Thursday

Today we wrote in the style of Tom Fletcher's book " There's a monster in your book". We had to give instructions as to how to get the monster out of our books.

Friday

Today we all came to school dressed up for World Book day. One of us came dressed as our class name: Emmeline Pankhurst.

We worked in groups to create a story about our characters. We acted this story out and then presented it as a story map, a written story or a comic strip. When we were finished we shared our stories with a friend.

Thank you to those parents who were able to come in and read with their children in the morning this week.

Odd Socks event held on our Anti Bullying Day - Momday 14th Nvember

Sutton Library Visit

We had a fantastic time when we visited Sutton Library on Thursday, 10th November. The children were brilliantly behaved ,with their manners being commented on by a member of the public. Everyone enjoyed browsing the books and choosing two to take home.

Useful Information

PE days are Tuesdays and Thursdays

Your child needs to come into school on their PE days (Tuesdays and Thursdays) wearing their outdoor PE kit for Tuesday and their indoor PE kit for Thursday. Please refer to the school website for details of our outdoor PE kit.

No jewellery is allowed in PE lessons, so if your child has their ears pierced they will either need to take their earrings out for P.E. or cover them with tape/plasters, provided by yourselves, so that they don’t get caught during the lesson.

Homework in Year 3 is given out each Thursday and is due in the following Tuesday.
Each week your child will receive either a piece of Maths or a piece of English homework.

The children will be rewarded with dojo points if they return their homework on time each week.

If your child does not complete their homework, they will need to complete it at break times.

Spellings are given out on a Wednesday and your child will be tested on these the following Wednesday. Spelling lists are located in the front of your child’s diary and they are uploaded to Spelling Bee (login details are located at the front of your child's diary) https://www.spellingshed.com/en-gb/

By the end of Year 3, your child should be able to spell some of the words from the year 3 and 4 statutory word list - you can find a copy below as well as in your child's diary.

Reading - Read to them and read with them! Reading is a key life skill and helps children become successful, independent learners. Listening to your child read at home at least 3 times a week will ensure continued progress - this doesn’t need to be their school reading book, it can be any reading that your child enjoys. Please record this in their diary. Children will be rewarded with a reading raffle ticket for 3 or more reads at home and have a chance to win a book, each week. They will also receive 1 dojo for reading 3 times a week at home and 2 dojos for reading 5 times. Diaries will be checked every Friday.

Times Table Tests - Each week, we will test the children on their individual times tables. Your child must obtain full marks twice consecutively in order to achieve their times table and move to the next one.

Please support your child with their homework, spellings and times tables.

Encourage your child to seek support from school if the homework is causing stress or confusion, but do not leave it until the night before it is due in. We are always here to help.
