Ferry Farm
What a wonderful day we had at Ferry Farm on Thursday. The children were so well behaved and an absolute credit to you all. We learnt so much. We learnt that a female pig is called a sow and a male pig is called a boar. We looked at the ‘Pig Arc’ which is where the pigs live but we were a little worried as it didn’t have a door!
We were so excited to meet Tallulah, a Kunekune pig native to New Zealand, who followed us around. We were really surprised at how soft she was when we stroked her.
We met some Blue Face Leicester sheep and some Hebridean sheep and learnt that a female sheep is called a ewe and a male sheep is called a ram. We were really surprised by the differences in their fleece and how they felt. We were also a little concerned by how much we could see caught on the fence!
In a rather big (and a little smelly!) field we met some Belted Galloway. It took us a little while but we counted 6 cows and 4 calf’s that we thought were rather cute! Herbie the bull came over to moo at us too.
As we went to the play park we met some rather noisy donkey’s who seemed really excited to see us, we learnt that a female donkey is called a Jenny and a male donkey is called a Jack. We laughed at how their ears pointed up and their tails swished the flies.
In the afternoon we handled and fed loads of small animals including rabbits, guinea pigs, gerbils, goats, pigs and chickens. We absolutely loved this part of the day!
We also managed to have a quick play on the play park, eat an ice-cream or lolly and have a ride on the Go-karts. No wonder we were all so tired by the end of the day!

Pirate Day!
Today we were Pirates and earnt our pirate license! We learnt a song about pirates, danced a pirate jig, made a pirate hat, looked for treasure and wrote messages in a bottle to the Wildcats. We had lots of fun and loved taking on the role of a pirate! Oooohhhh arghhhhh!

A visit from Nurse Buttery
Visit from Sarah Bennett our Police Community Support Officer
We had a visit from our local Police Community Support officer, Sarah Bennett. She spoke with us about what her job involved, how the police can help us, different modes of transport, catching bad guys and helping us all. Sarah shared her uniform with us and we were surprised at how heavy it was, weighing over a stone. We spoke to another officer over the radio and looked at all the different equipment telephones, cameras and radios Sarah needs to help her do her job.

Thank you for all the effort you have made with dressing up today. The children looked wonderful. We have spoken together about what Red Nose Day is & why we are trying to raise money. The children found the video clips on the BBC website really interesting and quite thought provoking, they generated lots of questions.
We listened and joined in with the song, ‘ Put a nose on it’ which I have included on the video.
We have taken photos for you all to see!

Gareth Baker - World Book Day
We loved our story session with Gareth Baker. We helped him to build and start a campfire using magic words and sticks. We then listened to him tell the gingerbread man story, we loved it! We joined in with the actions and parts of the story, he made it a very exciting experience for us all and we were desperate for another story after!
Pancake Day - Yum Yum!
The Lion's and Tiger's had great fun today, learning all about pancakes, helping to mix the batter and then cooking and eating it. The children were all very excited and we were all very thankful to Mr Smith who helped with the cooking of the 45 pancakes!
Parent Reading Sessions on a Friday
What a wonderful way to start the day. It was so lovely to see so many of you and the children to be so enthusiastic about the visitors to the class. Thank you all so much for coming and welcoming groups of children to come and listen to your stories. What a wonderful community we have at Dalestorth. Thank you for helping us show how important reading is to us all and that it is a great activity for us to do altogether. We will hopeful see you again very soon.
Mr Fretwell Music sessions on a Tuesday
Mr Fretwell is now visiting the Lion's and the Tiger's on a Tuesday afternoon, where we sing our song of the week and have opportunity to practise our makaton. We have opportunity to use different musical instruments such as boomwackers, explore different sounds and take part in listening challenges.
Rock Steady!
We were visited by Rock Steady and participated in a workshop. It was absolutely fantastic. The children got to see lots of instruments a guitar, drums, keyboard & vocals on a microphone; some even got to touch & use them. We could have spent the whole day learning about music we were really enthusiastic & engaged with the activity
