Hello everyone and welcome to our Martin Luther King class page.
We are one of three classes in Lower Key Stage 2.
We are named after Martin Luther King.
Martin Luther King was a Baptist minister and social rights activist in the United States in the 1950s and 1960s. He was a leader of the American civil rights movement. He organized a number of peaceful protests as head of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference, including the March on Washington in 1963.

Each term, you will receive a newsletter telling you more information about each topic as well as Knowledge Organisers. These provide you with ‘Subject Specific Vocabulary’ and ‘Sticky Knowledge’ that your child will be learning throughout the topic.
PE days are Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
Your child needs to come into school on their PE days wearing their outdoor PE kit. Please refer to the school website for details of our outdoor PE kit.
No jewellery is allowed in PE lessons, so if your child has their ears pierced they will either need to take their earrings out for P.E. or cover them with tape/plasters, provided by yourselves, so that they don’t get caught during the lesson.
IMPORTANT: Year 4 children will be going swimming each Wednesday morning all year.
You will receive a separate, more detailed letter about swimming.
Homework in King is given out each Thursday and is due in the following Tuesday.
Each week your child will receive either a piece of Maths or a piece of English homework.
The children will be rewarded with dojo points if they return their homework on time each week.
If your child does not complete their homework, they will need to complete it at break times.
Spellings are given out on a Monday and your child will be tested on these the following Monday. Spelling lists are located in the front of your child’s diary and they are uploaded to Spelling Bee (login details are located at the front of your child's diary) https://www.spellingshed.com/en-gb/
Reading - Read to them and read with them! Reading is a key life skill and helps children become successful, independent learners. Listening to your child read at home at least 3 times a week will ensure continued progress - this doesn’t need to be their school reading book, it can be any reading that your child enjoys. Please record this in their diary. Children will be rewarded with a reading raffle ticket for 3 or more reads at home and have a chance to win a book, each week. They will also accumulate a personal reading score which will be converted to prizes throughout the year, as well as receiving 1 dojo for reading 3 times a week at home and 2 dojos for reading 5 times.
Diaries will be checked every Tuesday to count the number of reads from the previous week.
Times Table Tests - Each Monday, we will test the children on their individual times tables. Your child must obtain full marks twice in order to achieve their times table and move to the next one.
Each June, all Year 4 children across England will take part in a statutory multiplication check, The check will assess how well each child knows their times tables up to 12x12, using an online testing tool. There will be more details sent to you about this during the spring term.
Please support your child with their homework, spellings and times tables.
Encourage your child to seek support from school if the homework is causing stress or confusion, but do not leave it until the night before it is due in. We are always here to help.
What can you do to help your child at school?
