We are looking forward to a return match in the new year!
Year 5 and 6 Football Vs St Andrews.
The football team have been training for the past 5 weeks and this evening took part in their first friendly match against St Andrews. All the children worked so hard and showed great determination, even when things were not always going our way. We had the chance to try players in different positions and look at how we could work our formation. It was a super first experience for the team and we are now ready and rearing to go in our up and coming football tournament. Thank you to all our wonderful supporters and well done to all the girls and boys who played amazingly well.
Year 3 and 4 Personal Best
Nine Year 3 and 4 children took part in a Personal Best event hosted here at Dalestorth and run by our School Games Organiser, Glynn. They took part in eight different challenges, including sprint runs, star jumps and football dribbling. They tried hard to complete as many repetitions in the 30 second time allocation. They then repeated each of these, showing great determination to try and beat their previous score. Their positivity and resilience was wonderful to see and we are so proud of them all. It was amazing to finally be back hosting some competitive sport on school grounds. Well done to all.
Year 5 and 6 Cross Country
A team of 10 children took part in the first round of the cross-country competition on Sutton Lawn. The children put in an excellent performance, working hard to keep going even when it got difficult. Declan, Freddie and Macie all qualified in high places, meaning they will continue into the next round of the competition, taking place after Christmas. Well done to everyone who took part.
Dalestorth Rainbow Games - July 2020
What a lovely week we had taking part in the virtual Rainbow Games, joining children at home and school together as a team. The children in each class were split into four colour teams. We took part in four different timed challenges, Twister, Speed Bounce, Hopping Star and Run the Rainbow. All the scores for each team were combined to find our daily and weekly winners! We had great fun twisting, jumping, running and hopping for our teams! Well done to every one who joined in. See the results below!
One word – WOW! This morning Mrs Hill, Mrs Curran and Mr Hughes were lucky enough to take 18 KS2 swimmers to Lammas Leisure Centre for the local area Swimming Gala. The children all gave 100% swimming amazingly well and supporting each other throughout. In total there were 27 races and at the end of the gala, we are tremendously proud to say Dalestorth came 1st achieving gold medals, a trophy and a place in the District Final later this year. Thank you to all the families who came to cheer us on, your support was very much appreciated.
Year 3/4 Futsal Competition
These footballers took part in the Futsal competition and were totally amazing! They won all three of their games, not conceding a goal. They worked so hard as a team and kept trying harder and harder as the matches went on. They have now qualified for the Futsal finals. Well done, really proud of you all.

All the children showed great perseverance and determination during their races, with fantastic individual and team efforts. A special well done to Olivia Wilson from Year 6 who came 6th in her race, which means she will be representing the district at the cross country event in February 2020 – Wow, an amazing achievement! A huge well done to everyone who took part.
Personal Challenge Event
7 year 4 and 5 children competed at Sutton Academy in this event. They took turns to sprint, throw and catch, dribble and chest throw. They each had several attempts at each activity and tried to improve on their performance each time. In each activity the children improved their time or score. Keira won a medal for showing the most improvement at dribbling and Lucas with throwing and catching. We had a great time, being the best we could be and the sport’s leaders from Sutton Academy commented on our beautiful manners and team spirit!
St Andrew's 1 - 4 Dalestorth
Last night we played St Andrew's in the first round of the cup and what a performance we gave! We scored some amazing goals, saved some decent shots and had a defence that we could have only dreamed of last match. The lads worked really hard as a team and put into practice all the things we had talked about in training. Well done Dalestorth, we are really proud of you.
Dalestorth 2 - 9 Kingsway
On Monday 16th September we played our first game in the Kirkby District Football League. The team hadn't even had their first training session, but despite this, the lads all tried so hard and put in 100% effort. We unfortunately lost the game, but scored two great goals. They showed lots of elements of great team work and we identified some areas we can work on in training. We are hugely proud of each player and can't wait for our next match.
On Thursday 20th June, Year 5 took part in a Schools Games Athletics competition at Ashfield School. The children had to take part in a 400m run, 60m sprint, Javelin and Standing Long Jump. Brodie B, Brody M, Tobias L, Mikell M, Olivia W, Evie-Rose H, Liv C and Paige E did Dalestorth proud. They each did every event, gave their maximum effort and achieved new personal bests. Each of them rose to the occasion. They were a fantastic example of sportsmanship with some of our team congratulating those who may have beaten them or winning graciously. Well done Year 5!
School Games Competition - Tennis
This week we have taken two teams of enthusiastic year 3 and 4 children to participate in two indoor tennis competitions at Sutton Academy. The children played in a series of mini matches where their individual scores were added to make a team score. Despite some of us not having played on a real tennis court before, the children played brilliantly and did us proud. They showed great determination to improve their game during the evenings and the progress made in two hours was unbelievable to watch. Well done Lili, Freddie C, Lewis A, Freya G, Freddie F, Isla AS, Oscar G and Erin S.
On Thursday these children participated in an Indoor Rowing competition against seven other schools from the district. This was the final heat to place in recent days. The children took part in a boys relay, girls relay and mixed relay, where they had to row as far as they could in their 30 second slot, before changing over. They worked so hard as a team, supporting and encouraging each other, and got better and better as the night went on. Overall on the night we came forth. Amazingly, over the three heats that have taken place, we came in 7th place and therefore have qualified for the district finals on the 7th March. An amazing achievement for a team who for many hadn’t rowed before this evening. Thank you to all the children for getting stuck in at the last minute and having a go!

During sports week, each class had a workshop about eating and staying healthy. We enjoyed taking part in some fun activities in the sunshine too.
On Wednesday we had Steve, from Judo1st, in school to lead some judo sessions with our classes. The children had a great time and we are hoping to continue to offer Judo after school sessions in September.
On Tuesday, each class took part in a dance work shop with Cara. She had half an hour with each group, to teaching them a dance routine to a favourite song of ours, 'This Is Me'. On Tuesday we took a team of Year 4 and 5 children to compete in a football tournament at the One Call Stadium, home of Mansfield Town Football Club. The boys worked really hard as a team and all pitched in to play in positions they wouldn't normally. We won, drew and lost some games and came 4th overall. We are really proud of their attitude; they never gave up, never moaned in the cold and rain and never grumbled about being a sub or playing in goal! Well done lads, a shining example of Dalestorth children.

Holly Evans took part in a Special Olympics event at Lammas Leisure Centre. Holly took part in wheel chair basketball, football and Boccia. She had a super time, was awarded a medal and got to meet Gold Paralympic medallist Ollie Hind.
Lucia runs against Nottinghamshire's finest
On Saturday 4th February, Lucia Light in Year 6 ran against the fastest qualifiers from all over the county on a bright but cold morning at Wollaton Park. Lucia placed 14th, which was a great outcome. Running over parkland, with climbs and descents covering 1.5km, the pace was fast. It was great Lucia was able to run this year as she had qualified in a previous year but had failed to run due to sickness. On Sunday Lucia was due to compete in a mixed martial arts competition- what a busy weekend for one of Dalestorth's most gifted athletes. Well done Lucia!
Handball ! Dalestorth play with spirit and secure a 3rd place spot

X-Country Success at the Ashfield Qualifiers!
On Thursday 6th of October Year 5 and 6 cross-country runners from Dalestorth lined up against over 300 pupils from other local schools. The girls were represented by: Lucia and Abigail from Y6; Rebecca, Abbie, Evie, Caitlin, Amelia, Edith & Mia from Y5. The boys, who consisted of two conscripts and one X-Country Club member, were Charlie, Lewis and Mason from Y6.
The Dalestorth girls finished 2nd overall, which is the first time we have placed in the medals as a school. Lucia secured personal victory with first place! She led from half-way and nearly caught the lead-out runner.
The boys did well, despite losing shoes, struggling to remove jogging bottoms and not enjoying wearing the cross-country vests. A plucky performance all round. Thanks to Mason and Lewis for agreeing to support Charlie as part of the squad.
Thanks to all the parents that came and supported. Ms Smith and Miss Layton can feel proud of the clubs achievements this term.
Quick cricket takes time
In the Summer Term many children took part in the Kwik-Cricket events taking place across the local area. Organised by 'Chance to Shine' the events were for Upper Juniors and Lower Juniors. Dalestorth took mixed teams to both and the children performed with determination and skill. They practised in their rest time and improved- eventually wining a game.
