On Thursday 1st December we held our 2nd class council and watched 'Newsround', below are our comments and opinions:

Gareth Southgate – Everyone thinks he is a good choice as the new England manager.

Christmas trees – The gingerbread house looked just like the White House, lots of bright lights on the trees and the trees were huge!

Penguins – So cute, good for penguins to be at the Sea Life Centre but their home was in Denmark. Good to stop every 2 hours for a break on the 20 hour journey. They are trying to prevent extinction, which is a good thing.

£5 note made with animal fat – Most of us think it shouldn’t be made with animal fat because it is not fair on vegetarians.

USA gymnast Simone Bile – excellent gymnast – world number 1, will only get better, next Olympics she will be even better and less nervous.

Jose Mourinho – Most of us think he should receive further punishment because he has been wrong 3 times this season so far! 2 of us would fine him and the rest would ban him for a few matches.

On Wednesday 23rd November the class took part in wedding role plays as part of their RE topic with Mrs. Hill and Mrs. Western. Check out the beautiful and funny photos below!
On Tuesday 22nd November year 4 joined the rest of KS2 with a visit to the Odeon Cinema in Mansfield to watch 'The Good Dinosaur'. The class were superbly well behaved and we all had a great time, even though some of us shed a tear!
On Monday 31st October we launched our Roman topic with a trip to the Jewry Wall Museum in Leicester. We all had a great time exploring real Roman artefacts, dressing up and visiting the remains of a Roman bath house. A big thank you to Mrs Ashley, Mrs Beaumont, Mrs Newman, as well as Mrs Hill and Miss Bunting for helping us on the trip. Our Roman photos are below:

Thank you so much for all your efforts with the Stone Age Creative Homework. We were absolutely AMAZED at what the children produced!

On Thursday 20th October the Cougars held there first class council.

Below are the minutes from our meeting:

Class council – Year 4 Cougars – 20.10.16

How do you think you have settled into year 4?

Awesome – I know where all my tables are and I know where everything is in the classroom. Every year I usually cry when starting a new class, but this year I didn’t.

What are you proud of/pleased about so far?

I think I have become more confident in this class because I have been learning harder things, which is working my brain more. I think this is going to be a very good year, because I am more confident already. I’m improving on my times tables this year (from 2 x table in December 2015 to gold!) I am really happy with our Stone Age topic and I really enjoy doing it. I am pleased with my creative homework, it made me think, ‘What am I going to do?’ and I found out lots more facts about the Stone Age. I am pleased because we have got harder maths. As we are getting older, we discover more skills in our new classes. I am proud of myself because I have got my 6x table and am almost on my 9s!

What would you like to get better at?

Topic - history and geography - 4

English - 5

Maths - 3

Art - 9

RE - 2

Science - 4

Reading comprehension - 3

PE - 2

Are there any problems you would like to discuss?

Worry: If I was to get bullied it would upset me and I don’t like being upset.

Solution: Tell a trusted adult at home or school who will help you.

Worry: Sometimes my dreams/nightmares scare me.

Solution: Write it down, put it under her pillow or in her worry pouch. Use a dream catcher. Tell a trusted adult at home or school who will help you.

Worry: Sports – sometimes we don’t end up with fair teams and we fall out.

Solution: Ask an adult to sort the teams out. At the end of the game, forget about it. Shake hands and say, ‘Good game!’

Worry: Killer Clowns

Solution: Think they are just doing very silly things. Tell a trusted adult at home or school who will help you (maybe the Police). Call Childline (0800 1111) to discuss it further. Think of happy things instead. Stay with adults/other children when walking to and from school.

On Thursday October 13th we braved the rain and enjoyed a multi-skills afternoon at Quarrydale. A big thank you to our parents helpers and all the Sports Leaders at Quarrydale. Have a look at our photos:
On Thursday 29th September the cougars walked to Mrs. Hill's house to go apple picking! This is to help us with our 'Enterprise Crumble Project!' We had a lovely afternoon picking apples and playing games in the garden. We were also treated by Mrs. Hill to biscuits and a drink. A HUGE thank you to Mrs. Hill and our helpers. Another thank you to all the parents who have been sending in crumble ingredients. Have a look at our photos:

From Monday 12th September until Friday 16th September the cougars took part in our first themed week, 'art week', studying the life and works of Wassily Kandinsky. We used his 'Squares with Concentric Rings' painting to produce own own interpretations using chalk, watercolours, collage and 3D melted plastic! We are using our melted plastic cup designs to create a year 4 Kandinsky tree which will be on display in the hall shortly. Below are some photos of Kandinsky's work and ideas:

On Monday 19th September, years 3 and 4 launched our first topic, 'Set In Stone'. We had a special topic day with lots of Stone Age based activities, such as making clay pots, stone age jewellery and cave paintings. Photos are below!
