Potted Sports 2017- what a blast!
Tuesday afternoon saw all the school head out for an afternoons sporting fun. There were 28 groups in total all pulling together to gather as many points as possible and have as much fun as possible.
There was also an individual challenge of the standing jump- we will find out who has leapt to fame later.
Thanks to all the adults who came out to help set-up and lead groups. Top job by Mrs Heathcote in getting all the groups organised. We will find out at Praise Assembly which team/country gathered the most points. A sterling effort by all and lots of fun too!
Enjoy looking at the photos of the day - the music kept is all going.
Lucia runs against Nottinghamshire and cities finest
On Saturday 4th February, Lucia Light in Year 6 ran against the fastest qualifiers from all over the county on a bright but cold morning at Wollaton Park. Lucia placed 14th, which was a great outcome. Running over parkland, with climbs and descents covering 1.5km, the pace was fast. It was great Lucia was able to run this year as she had qualified in a previous year but had failed to run due to sickness. On Sunday Lucia was due to to compete in a mixed martial arts competition- what a busy weekend for one of Dalestorth's most gifted athletes. Well done Lucia!

X-Country Success at the Ashfield Qualifiers!
On Thursday 6th of October Year 5 and 6 cross-country runners from Dalestorth lined up against over 300 pupils from other local schools. The girls were represented by: Lucia and Abigail from Y6; Rebecca, Abbie, Evie, Caitlin, Amelia, Edith & Mia from Y5. The boys, who consisted of two conscripts and one X-Country Club member, were Charlie, Lewis and Mason from Y6.
The Dalestorth girls finished 2nd overall, which is the first time we have placed in the medals as a school. Lucia secured personal victory with first place! She led from half-way and nearly caught the lead-out runner.
The boys did well, despite losing shoes, struggling to remove jogging bottoms and not enjoying wearing the cross-country vests. A plucky performance all round. Thanks to Mason and Lewis for agreeing to support Charlie as part of the squad.
Thanks to all the parents that came and supported. Ms Smith and Miss Layton can feel proud of the clubs achievements this term.
Quick cricket takes time
In the Summer Term many children took part in the Kwik-Cricket events taking place across the local area. Organised by 'Chance to Shine' the events were for Upper Juniors and Lower Juniors. Dalestorth took mixed teams to both and the children performed with determination and skill. They practised in their rest time and improved- eventually wining a game. On Monday 23rd of May twelve Year 2 children took part in a competition against other local schools. The event was held at Sutton Centre Academy in the afternoon. The children were brilliant and gave it their all! They had all manner of challenges: relays, speed-bounce, standing-jump, javelin, target throw...
Miss Layton and Mr Rumsby were proud to be part of this team. Thanks to all the parents that helped and came along to support. Overall we placed 4th and the relay races were closely contested.
Dalestorth's Netball Team played with spirit and determination. The team drew twice and then won convincingly in their final match. Mrs Curran and Mrs Claxton were very proud of the performance the girls put in. Well done to them all. The team places 4th overall.
Sainsbury's School Games Tennis Competition.
On Monday 12th October 4 children took part in a tennis competition at Sutton Academy, with Miss Layton. The year five children were eager to participate this year, after missing out on a previous competition! Miss Layton reports that they played brilliantly and were a credit to the school. They came 3rd within their group, narrowly missing out on some wins at times. Well done everyone!
Sainsbury's School Games Cross Country Competition
On Thursday 8th October Mr Rumsby and Miss Layton took a strong team of 18 children to compete in the Sainsbury's School Games Cross Country Competition at Ashfield School. They had been training hard in the weeks leading up to the competition and were eager to show off their skills and new kit! We entered two girls teams and a boys team, with all children running the same distance. There were approximately 150 runners in each competition and our children did amazingly well, with lots of them finishing in the top 50. Lucia came 5th out of all the girls and will now go on to represent the school and district at the district finals in February 2016! Rebecca and Lily also did an amazing job, especially as they were running against some girls who are two years older. Our girls team came 4th out of the 25 schools that entered! Amazing team work! Our boys team well too, with Alistair making the top 20 for the second year in a row. Well done to all the children who took part, you did us all proud and we can't wait to see how the team develops ready for next years competition.
Tag-Rugby District Finals 5th October 2015
The Year 6 team took part in the district finals at Polly Bowls Sports Ground on Monday evening. They played against five other teams, who had also all won their group stage, to progress to the finals. They put on another evening of superb performances, scoring lots of well executed tries. We gained 7 points in the finals and came 6th overall. 6th in our district!! An amazing achievement to be proud of. Well done team Dalestorth, as always, a pleasure to take out of school.
Tag-Rugby Qualifier - 29th Sept 2015
We took part in the qualifying round of the Tag-Rugby competition at Ashfield School. We took 10 superbly behaved Year 6 pupils to represent us and they did us proud. In our group we played four matches, winning three of these and losing only one. We were crowned group winners, with 10 points and now advance into the district finals on Monday 5th October. The children played amazingly well as a team, supporting and encouraging each other where needed. They played the best tag-rugby I have seen us play here at Dalestorth in a long time, and couldn't be prouder of them right now! Well done everyone - bring on the finals on Monday!
We have enjoyed a wide range of Sports events, competitions and festivals already this year including: Football, Tag Rugby, Rowing, Cross Country, Table Tennis and the Swimming Gala in which we came 3rd...

The children took part in 6 matches’ against schools from Sutton and Mansfield, winning five of these and drawing one. This made us overall WINNERS! The team played incredible together, the best we have ever seen them play. We had lots of children scoring some fabulous goal, one even taken from the half way line! We had a super defence and our keeper was amazing, managing to stop all the shots bar one! A great job done! We are all so proud of your team work and commitment, especially after a busy week for lots of you.
A massive thank you again to the staff and parents for all their help and support. It is very much appreciated.
