Class councils - Wednesday 19th April.

This week we read a story about two brothers who found some money in the street. They thought it may belong to a retired couple they lived next door too, but they didn't know for sure. They didn't know what to do, as their family had very little money and could do with buying some food shopping. As a class we thought about and discussed what the boys should do and who they could get to help them. We decided it wasn't okay to keep the money themselves, as it wasn't theirs and they need to try and find the owners. We talked about people they could ask to help them - their parents, the couple or the police. In the end the class thought the boys would do the right thing and be honest about the money they had found.

Red Nose Day - Friday 24th March 2017

Our theme this year was 'inside out, back to front, anything goes'.  We came to school dressed in a range of 'interesting' looks and raised lots of money for an amazing cause.  As well as dressing up we had a cake sale.

Wednesday 22nd March - Class Council

In our class council meeting this week we had the subject of Science to discuss. The children have lots of ideas about what science is - finding things out, learning about animals, doing tests, learning how things work and seasons. We watched a video about polar bears, which discusses the question - How do polar bears not fall through the ice? We had some great predictions - including them wearing special ice skating shoes!! We learnt about how their weight is distributed over their four legs to spread it out and how they are actually really good ice skaters!! We had great fun watching the polar bear demonstrate his skills of skating across the ice, without falling through into the freezing sea! Did you know they can skate on their belly too? We didn't, but we do know! The children knew lots about animals and their habitats. This lead us to talking about how the polar bear is adapted to survive in its habitat and why it camouflages. A super discussion Puma class.

World Book Day 2017

On Thursday 2nd March 2017 staff and children dressed up as our favourite book and film characters.  We dressed up as pirates, Roald Dahl characters, Ron Weasley, the Mad Hatters, fairies, princes and princesses, Cleopatra and other brilliant characters.  Which one was your favourite?

The potting shed....Buried treasure

This unit will incorporate the concepts of growing by getting the pupils to become plant hunters who go on an exciting journey discovering both real and fantasy plants.

Thursday 6th January 2017

In our Class Council session today we had a discussion about our hopes, dreams and aspirations for the future.  The children were asked to think about what their life might be like when they are 25 - what job they might be doing, where they would be living and their hobbies.  Our discussion was great and really interesting.  It was fantastic to see such ambition within the children and they all had very clear ideas about what they would like to do as a career (and why).  Some of our career choices included working with animals (either as a vet or in an animal rescue centre), nursing, teaching, becoming an artist and training to be a Paleontologist!  Three of the boys in our class are fascinated with dinosaurs and would love to follow Paleontology as a career!  Some of the boys are keen to become footballers or athletes and one of our girls is hoping to become a dance teacher.

In terms of where the children saw themselves living when they were older, replies were varied.  A lot of the children would like to live in places they have visited on holiday such as Scotland or Cornwall but most of the children were keen to move to places where they have family already.  These places varied from Scotland, Cornwall and London to countries around the world such as South Africa, Switzerland and even Australia.

A great and fascinating Class Council today.  Thank you everyone.

December 2016 - Key Stage 1 Performances - A Midwife Crisis

Wow what can we say Key Stage 1?!  After weeks of rehearsing and singing you produced two fantastic performances of our Christmas play 'A Midwife Crisis' which did us proud.  All the parents, teachers and staff were so proud of your amazing performances.  You all worked so hard and created a play that was thoroughly enjoyed by all.  Brilliant teamwork - well done!

Puma Class - A Midwife Crisis December 2016

Class Council

We had a great discussion in class about two key news topics.  We watched Newsround and firstly talked about the transportation of a number of penguins to the Sealife Centre in Birmingham - they were being moved through Europe in a specially adapted lorry.  The children were really interested in how the lorry had been adapted to suit the penguins and ensure that they had a safe journey and were made to feel 'at home' whilst being transported to Birmingham.  We discussed the care taken in ensuring the penguins were well looked after.

Secondly we looked at a clip of a number of children testing the craze of the moment, the Hatchimals.  The children on the clip tested these toys and talked about the pros and cons of having such a toy for Christmas.  It would seem the majority of Puma class have asked for a Hatchimal from Santa!  After watching the clip we talked about whether the toys appeared to give value for money and if any of the children had changed their minds after hearing some of the comments.  The children gave a resounding 'no' and Hatchimals are staying firmly on their Christmas lists!

On Friday 3rd November we had our Enterprise Day.  We made Snowman Soup, Gift tags and Reindeer Noses ready for the festive season that is fast approaching!  We did really well and sold out of most of our stock!

Enterprise Day - Friday 3rd November

On Thursday 2nd November we visited Sutton Library for the morning.  We enjoyed sharing stories with the librarian and had great fun choosing some books to take back to school!

Sutton Library Trip - Thursday 2nd November 2016

Just before we broke up for half term we had a Class Council meeting about the children's progress and how they thought the half term had gone.  The minutes from the meeting are attached below.

Baking Bread - Thursday 22nd September

The Puma Class

This half term our topic is The Big Build.  We had a brilliant time working with the Partake Theatre Company on Thursday 22nd September.  We have also been baking bread and did a great job of kneading our dough and making our bread into different shapes.  This half term we will also be studying autumn and doing lots of observational drawing and sketching during the changes in season.  We will be working towards our individual targets in English and maths and will be working on the Purple Mash program in ICT to create some great Fire of London pictures.
Exciting websites to play on!
